Pro Tips for All Gardening Beginners

Gardening
Gardening is a fun side activity and hobby for a lot of people. It doesn’t matter if you are a beginner or an expert, to start gardening you will need a couple of plants, a small patch of grass in the backyard and a lot of caring and time to maintain your garden and plants. Now, of course, it helps if you have previous experience with arranging, seeding and watering your plants, but even if you don’t, there are some easy tips for gardening that you can follow.

To make things even easier on yourself, we have decided to put together a list of pro tips for gardening so you can start planting your veggies right away and not waste your time researching all of this on the internet.

Water your plants

image-4Our first tip is about watering your plants. Plants need to be well watered all the time, but this doesn’t mean you should drown them. The ideal measure is to give your plants about an inch of water per week. The best way to know if you are over-watering your plants is if the leaves start to turn yellow. Also, always water at the base of the plant and never over the leaves. Wet leaves can lead to mold, rot and plant diseases. The last thing you want is a sick plant after the whole year of careful nourishment.

Arrange plants carefully

image-7This is very important if you want to have a successful harvest and big and healthy plants. First of all, when planting them avoid square formations and rows. Instead, plant them in triangles. You will be able to plant up to 15% more plants if you use this technique, but be careful not to overcrowd them.

Plants that are stacked on top of each other never achieve their full potential and are more prone to diseases and insect attacks. Try to find the balance between space and the number of plants, and remember that more plants doesn’t mean more crop.

Get rid of your waste

image-6Plants produce waste and that waste needs to go somewhere. Depending on the size of your garden you can either get rid of it yourself, or call the professionals to do it for you. Companies like JNS Skip Bins offer rubbish removal and green waste disposal services for a reasonable price. Sometimes it is better to order this type of service because you will save yourself from a lot of trouble and work.

Control aggressive plants

Some plants have aggressive roots and in order to prevent them from overwhelming your garden, you will need to plant them in plastic containers. This will help control the direction in which their roots grow so they don’t mess with other plants. Also, cut off the bottom of the plastic container so it doesn’t get crowded in there too fast. This way, the roots will just go deeper into the soil. If you need a tree removal, you can also do that to make more space.

Reduce weight of heavy pots

There is no need to fill a big pot with dirt. It will be unnecessarily heavy and hard for you to move. One trick you can use is to fill half of the pot with packing foam and another half with soil. This will greatly reduce the weight of the whole pot and won’t affect the plant the slightest. Also, put a piece of landscape fabric between the foam and soil, otherwise dirt will just slip through the packing foam.

As you can see, gardening is not that scary. Like we previously said all you need is a patch of dirt and a motivation to work. We hope that you learned something new from our article and that you picked up at least one of our tips. If you decide to start this beautiful hobby remember some of our tips and your plants will be healthy and fruitful.
